Evaluation

1) In what way does your media product, use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I used two magazines to analyse (Kerrang and Classic Rock) the magazines helped me with my layout of my whole magazine. When thinking of what could make my front cover look more like a magazine, i used diffrent styles from Kerrang. For example I put a bands name followed by a star on the top of my magazine and also with my posters that will be in my magazine ore on my front cover. I also used a layout design from Classic Rock for my interview. I used some suggestions from my questionnaires, for example I found out from my questionnaire that readers would like the colour red and from looking at my questionnaire i found that my target audience should be readers bewteen the ages of 15-30.

2) How does your media product represent particular social groups?

I decided to target teenagers and young adults (15-30) who enjoy rock music. I wanted to target noth male and female this means that my magazines will seel more as itstargeted at both. I wanted to represent my age group as rebellious and cool, and this shows through my model as she has rebellious hair, dark make up and outrageous shoes, it shows that my magazine is about young rebelliuos rockers. But i also wanted to show that my target market are sensible because I think my age group are always known to be dangerous and the older generation should stay away from us, and i want to change people's deception of this.

3) What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

My text is aimed at a large mass audience because my age group (15-30) is quite large. I think a publishing house like Bauer might distribute my magazine because I think they will have a gap in their market for my magazine because they have a portfolio of magazines like Q, Kerrang and Mojo and these magazines are an older alternative from my magazine, andmine is a younger alternative.

4) Who would be the audience for your media product?

My gender for mymagazine are both male and female, who are the age of 15-30. This means my audiences lifestyle are very varied, my audience can be at school, college, university, or have a job. Their interests are obvious, rock music. My audiences social economic groups are a category B to C1, these are well educated people who can afford to buy my magazine every week. You could say my group are part of a Western culture (rich people can afford it). I think my magazine could fit into the penumbra affect because there might be an audience who dont just like rock music but R and B and Indie etc music as well, and if the penumbra group enjoy a specific band they might buy my magazine because it has their favourite band within my magazine.

5) How did you attract/address your audience?

I think my language within my magazine is in between formal and non-formal. There is eye contact that my model does on the front cover, I used this picture because I wanted my model to look at the readers to attract them to buying my magazine. I think my audience are represented in my text because i use language that they use in their daily life. I do use techniques to attract my readers. For example i have a burst icon with the work WIN inside it, so when the reader looks on the front cover they see that word stand out. I also use the word FREE on my fron cover and everyone is bought in by this word.

6) What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

When it came to taking pictures i used my own camera which is a Sony Alpha A200, so i already know all about my camera and what format to use to get the best photographs. I went to a studio in Kettering and used a white backdrop so I wouldnt have to edit out the background. I attached a wireless flash trigger, which made the digital flash umbrellas flash, so this made my pictures brighter. The manager of the studio showed me diffrent techniques to use with the digital flash umbrellas and how by just standing on a stool and being eye level with the model can make the shot better. After this I went back to school and uploaded my photos onto the computer and edited my chosen photos that worked well, and then I put my photos onto a memory stick and created my first draft on publisher. But of course I had to do a lot of planning. I had to think of a name for my magazine and a tag line. I also had to think of sell lines to go on my front cover that would attract my audience. My interview also took a lot of time to get perfect because i had to fit the text within the picture. In one of our media lessons we had our ICT tecaher come down and show us diffrent techniques to us on Photoshot, and I learnt a lot from this lesson from how to make someones teeth whiter to editing out a background and replacing it with something else.

7) Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Throughout this whole task i have played the part of, photographer, editor and journalist. I think by looking at my prelim task and my finished result, you can see how much i have improved through my editing and layouts of my finished magazine. By analysing my two chosen magazine (kerrang and Classic rock) they really helped me to choose the diffrent type of things to have in my magazine. For example, on my front cover, sell line and latest bands to have in my magazine. I think the manager of the studio where I took my photographs really helped me with my angles and how to get the best shot out of a photo session, and these techniques will definitely help me in the future. I also now realise how important it is to meet deadlines and how much it takes to construct a magazine and everything has to be perfect.
